How do I know there is no keylogging Malware with your service? How can I avoid keyloggers in general?

We take all responsible steps in assuring our service has no malware or Viruses such as keyloggers. First, all the add-ons we use come from Curse.com - the most reliable force we've found. Once we get them from Curse.com, we scan each add-on extensively with an up-to-date virus/spyware scanning program to make sure there is no malicious software contained within the add-on zipped file.

Keylogging is a form a malware that records all your keystrokes and transmits that information to whoever planted the malware. This gives access to your username and passwords which may lead to the sale of your gear or even your account itself.  Contrary to popular opinion, reports of keylogging are becoming less frequent this year (2009) than last year (2008). Until recently, the main vehicle for the problem was a loophole in the coding of Internet Explorer that allowed links to automatically download malware on the target's computer. At the present time there are very few reports of keylogging this year from reputable add-on sites such as Curse.com.

Here are some steps you can take so that you are not vulerable to keylogging:

  • Have an up-to-date Virus/Spyware protection on your computer and do regular scans of your computer
  • Use the "remember my account name" option inside World of Warcraft so you never actually type your account name
  • Place your Username and/or Password saved in a Notepad file and just copy/paste your info into WoW so you never type your account or password
  • Just be smart where you choose to browse and download add-ons. Stick with Curse.com or Forgeadvantage.com.
